Bergdorf Goodman Designer Couture / 1950s Dress and Cape / 1957 Royal Blue and Emerald Silk Gown and Matching Cape / Size Small

This fabulous set was custom made for a special client in Bergdorf Goodman's Couture Shop. Many famous designers created fashion for that shop. This was made in 1957. Its label is named and numbered. We are unable to find the exact designer but it feels and looks like pieces Balmain was doing for Bergdorfs in the 1950s.

It begins with a glamorous gown made from a royal blue silk satin in a tight column design. The fitted skirt has a deep kick vent at the bottom for ease of movement. An over-dress of matching royal blue silk chiffon cascades over the skirt, and covers the sweetheart bodice with delicately textured ruching. A wide band of pleated silk satin in stunning emerald green adorns the waist, adding a cummerbund like effect to the waistline, and finishes with a very voluminous bow which drapes down the left hip. Bodice is boned for added structure. Back metal zipper in the satin, with snaps and hooks and eyes in the chiffon over-dress.

The matching cape is made of matching royal blue silk satin, and lined in matching emerald green satin. Voluptuous and extensive gathering descends from the shoulders, giving this massive volume. Ties in front with large tabs. Absolutely breathtaking!

Condition: The cape is in excellent vintage condition. The dress has one very clever repair at shoulder which blends into the pattern seamlessly and some fading in the chiffon overlay of the skirt. There is a small hole one of the faded spots. These spots disappear into the folds of the skirt and are not visible when worn. We have photos (no room in the listing) which we can provide upon request.

All vintage is sold in "as-is" condition. We do our best to inspect, correct, and list important flaws. All measurements are made with the garment laying flat. Length is measured from shoulder to hem unless otherwise noted. Color is described as closely as possible. Be aware that monitors show color differently. Message us for any needed clarifications.
